Why this site is kinda weird

Mainly, it’s because so are the people who are building the site. We like our weirdness, and we like having a bit of a filter that weeds out the people who get freaked out by things they aren’t used to. That way, they don’t come to our events and freak out at us in person. If you made it this far into the website, you’re probably the sort of person who gets intrigued by weirdness, and that means you’re exactly the sort of person we want to organize with.

Also, we #@*%ing hate the bland corporate-friendly aesthetics that are taking over so much of the internet, and the planet-killing plagiarism machines “generative AI” that’s helping it along. We’re not a professional social media team operating out of a brand manual, and we’re not a chatbot trying to predict what a generic internet user would expect to read. We’re a bunch of pissed off artists and organizers trying to protect one small corner of the world from the worsening effects of climate change. We don’t want to hide that reality behind a veneer of professionalism. Writing marketing copy is really kinda soul-destroying. So when we have to do it for the sake of community acceptance, we keep ourselves sane by having a little fun with it.

We hope you enjoy the various little easter eggs hidden throughout the site. Know that they were put there by humans, for humans, and take them as reminders to ignore your local algorithm today.
